about
Miller is back with danceable horn driven soul single SUNDAY, showcasing her versatility, and style. Affectionately known by her musical peers as “Mama Miller” Tracey returns after releasing her powerful debut and heart felt soul ballad Broken Line which was launched with a triumphant five week residency at Thornburys newest hotspot, Shotkickers.
The high caliber and diverse range of supports assembled for her Broken Line residency are testament to the respect she already holds from musicians in Melbourne and it's time the rest of the world got on board.” - Darcy McNulty, JAZZPARTY
“Melbourne Queen of New Orleans and soul, Tracey Miller, assembles a huge band of the best R&B musicians to release her new single Sunday. A grooving celebration of sensuous soul music on a perfect Sunday afternoon.” - James Black, RocKWiz
SUNDAY is not a ballad, but a catchy sweet and relatable soul number that connects us with Miller's insistence that life is to be enjoyed and sometimes you have to fight for that. It’s a song many of us can immediately identify with, especially with such busy lives and schedules. When Miller sings about lying in bed with her “baby” on a Sunday morning, she has her listeners thinking of their own moments where on the one day of the week, you are actually allowed to abandon the lot, and think of nothing else but sleep. It’s a feeling of comfort and warmth the feeling that nothing will stop you from having to be anywhere but in this cosy moment.
“And my old cat scratches at the bedroom door
I’m not about to give in
Its Sunday and I’m lying in
With my Baby”
As with her previous release Broken Line, Sunday was recorded live in a closed up Archies Creek Hotel with grammy nominated engineer Erick Jaskowiak and mixed and mastered by homegrown grammy nominated talent Nick Herera (Emma Donovan and the Putbacks, Hiatus Kaiyote, JAZZPARTY).
It boasts beautiful daptones-esque, soul horn arrangements and baritone sax from JAZZPARTY’S Darcy McNulty plus smooth Marvin Gaye style percussion from master percussionist Ray Pereira as well as beloved players Eamon McNelis on trumpet, Grant Arthur on trombone, Lachlan Mitchell (Laneous) on guitar, Tamara Murphy on bass, Freyja Hooper on drums, Gideon Preiss on piano, “Champagne” Sam Lemann on guitars and daughter of the queen herself, Loretta Miller on backing vocals. Produced and arranged by Loretta Miller, Darcy McNulty and Lachlan Mitchell .
“A polished and jaunty soul mover.” - Mohair Slim, PBS
lyrics
Oh That cold wind bangs and rattles at my window
And my old cat scratches at my bedroom door
I’m not about to give in
It’s Sunday and I’m lying in
With my Baby
I hear my phone ringing, the message tells them that I’m not at home
I’m not willing, to spoil this precious time with you alone
I’m not about to give in
It’s Sunday and I’m lying in
With my baby
Oh l
Want to be with you
And I’m so glad
That you want me too
I feel your heartbeat a steady rhythm that connects with mine
Nothing could be more sweet than lying here just killing time
I’m not about to give in
It’s Sunday and I’m lying in
With my baby
We’ll soon be back at work on Monday so today is the one day
I spend with you
there’s nothing l would rather do than to be lying close to you
On a Sunday
And it’s cold outside
And I’m staying right here by your side
On a Sunday
Cos l love you baby
And I’m so so glad that your mine
